First and third period students should be working on their group projects.

All students should be responding to the Edmodo question.  Three of you have shared your recent reads, and they do sound interesting.

Class Thursday, Sept. 25, 2014 and Review for Diagramming Sentences with Compound Subjects

All Classes:
1. DOL/Diagramming
2. FLEX- What's Behind the Box? Review of grammar, punctuation, word stems, literary vocabulary, and the Odyssey.

First and Third:

Odyssey reading: "The Test of the Bow" and "Death at the Palace"

-Consider irony and imagery in these two sections.
-Consider the suitors' attitude toward the gods and the hospitality customs of Greece.


Fourth:
Odyssey reading: Odysseus returned to Ithaca, visited with Eumaeus, and reunited with Telemachus.  Consider why both Odysseus and Telemachus go to Eumaeus first.  How does Athena help Odysseus?  Why did Odysseus say Telemachus was not acting "princely"?  What is Telemachus' character like?

First And Third Periods:

1. Odyssey - Odysseus met Telemachus, went to the palace, and was reunited with Argos.  Things to remember/consider:
  •  What was Telemachus' reaction to Odysseus' revelation, and why did Odysseus say that it was not "princely"?
  • Based on today's reading, how would you describe Telemachus' personality?  What evidence supports your claim?
  • Be able to explain how the episode with Argos is a good example of the theme of faithfulness.

Fourth Period:

1. We finished reading about Helios' cattle.

-Whom does Odysseus blame for his misfortunes? When things go well, to whom does he give the credit?  What does that tell us about his personality?

-Why did Eurylochus encourage the men to eat the cattle?
